Hutsul Drive
After many years of thinking about it (and probably a few late-night kitchen polka debates), Vlad finally decided it was time to start his own band. Not just any polka band, but the best Ukrainian polka party band in Saskatchewan. Big goal? Absolutely. But every great party has to start somewhere.
The first step was convincing his wife to learn the accordion — no small task — and generously donating their basement as the official rehearsal space. Once we filled in all the positions in our ideal band set up, the music began to flow. What started as a fun idea quickly turned into something louder, faster, and a whole lot more exciting.
Before long, Hutsul Drive was making a name for itself. Some people say we’re better than The Schemenge Brothers. Others say our polkas are just a little too fast. But that’s what happens when you put a young lad behind the drum kit — things are bound to get lively.
At its heart, the band’s mission is simple: to keep Ukrainian music and traditions alive, thriving, and impossible to sit still to. We believe heritage should be celebrated with energy, laughter, and maybe just a little bit of sweat. And don’t worry — you don’t have to be Ukrainian to party like one. Just bring your dancing shoes and we’ll take care of the rest.
