Chaban Ukrainian Dance Regina
For more than 52 years, Chaban Ukrainian Dance Regina has proudly preserved and celebrated Ukrainian culture through the art of dance. Founded in 1973, the school has become a vibrant and welcoming hub for dancers of all ages, offering high-quality instruction and a strong sense of cultural community. Under the artistic direction of Oksana and Yuriy Sholdra, professionally trained dancers and instructors from Lviv, Ukraine, Chaban continues to uphold the authenticity, beauty, and energy of traditional Ukrainian dance.
Chaban is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization, with classes held at the historic Ukrainian National Federation Hall on St. John Street—an important cultural gathering place for the local Ukrainian community. The school welcomes dancers from age 3 to 71, fostering an inclusive environment where beginners, returning dancers, and seasoned performers can grow their skills while connecting to Ukrainian heritage.
In recent years, Chaban has played a meaningful role in supporting newcomer Ukrainian families displaced by war. Through the generosity of Creative Kids Saskatchewan, the Shevchenko Foundation, and the Gary and Shirley Wasyliw Family, the school has been able to provide financial support that enables these children to participate in dance while establishing a new life in Regina. This commitment to community support and cultural preservation is at the heart of Chaban’s mission.
Chaban dancers regularly attend competitions in Regina, Edmonton, and across the prairies, consistently earning top marks and awards—a testament to their dedication and the exceptional instruction they receive. Visitors are encouraged to stop by Chaban’s display table to learn more, join the mailing list, and discover what makes this long-standing, community-driven dance school truly unique.
